High Tide

The other day I went walking down the beach and was amazed how far out the tide goes when there is a full moon.
There is so much more beach exposed, and you can see little pockets where waves usually are pretty high.
It was a great chance to get out further into where water would usually be. There also was a huge collection of new shells to collect.

Bug Infestation

For the past 2 days there has been the weirdest amount of bugs everywhere in the city. I have never seen a bug in my flat, and for the past few nights the bugs have been so crazy in our flat that we have had to turn off all the lights in order to get them away from our kitchen and living room lights and walls. Downtown around the lights, it is actually disgusting how many bugs there are flying around. There are so many of them on the streets at night that when a car goes over them all you hear is loud CRUNCHING noises as they get run over. It is terrifying!!Thankfully last night they have seemed to calm down, and there are not as many of them. The locals who live here say that this is not a common thing, and that they have never witness this random bug infestation before.

Scary...the world may be coming to an end after all

St. Patrick's Day

For the past four years I have celebrated St. Patrick's Day in Waterloo, where all the students would enjoy one of the greatest party days of the year, take a break from midterms and essays and get all dolled up in GREEN!This year, I just assumed that St. Patrick's Day wouldn't be as big of a deal as it was back at home in Canada. To my surprise, St. Patrick's Day was just as big and just as crazy. Everyone gets their green on, and their jolly Irish souls come out to honour the leprechauns and the shamrocks, oh and of course GUINESS!
We bar hopped to each Irish bar in Surfer's Paradise. We didn't realize how many Irish pubs there are around here. The only disappoint I had about my Australian St. Patrick's Day was that they did not do GREEN BEER. Such a let down, but a fun and eventful day nonetheless. Sorry Waterloo still holds the record of best St. Patty's Day in my heart.

Technology Fail

Last week my power cord for my computer fried. For about a week now my computer has been dead, and I haven't been able to properly use the internet, or skype with anyone from home. I am hoping within the next few days I will find a cord that is compatible with my computer and I will be back up and running again!

Sand Friend

The other day at the beach I was just laying there reading a magazine, when from the corner of my eye I saw something moving towards me. For a brief second I thought it was just a piece of garbage then I looked beside me and saw these little eyes looking up at me and realized...
IT WAS A LITTLE CRAB!

At first I was scared as it is a CRAB, and has claws...but it quickly went back into it's little hole and I didn't feel afraid anymore. The little guy was so cute to watch. It slowly would come out of it's hole again to see if the coast was clear, and then once it realized I was still there it would rush back into the sand again.
If I didn't notice it move, it would be really hard for me to have seen that it was there as it is so small, and it's colour is pretty transparent and camouflages into the sand. Next time I head to the beach I will need to watch where I am going or else I may get a little surprise bite.

Arcade of Dreams

On Monday we celebrated my roommate's birthday at a place called "Time Zone". Time Zone is a HUGE arcade with tons of arcade games, laser tag, a bowling alley, a mini putt and bumper cars! It was such a fun night; it was like reliving my childhood again! When I was younger and my family and I would go on road trips to visit my grandparents in Florida, we would sometimes stop at arcades. We would spend hours in there competing with each other to see who got the most tickets. My brother and I were known to get quite evil and competitive, but all the teasing and competitiveness only made me stronger when I am faced with a challenge to a game. Getting tickets was probably that most fun thing ever! At this arcade, you pay $20 and you get 2 hours of fun. The first hour you get to play unlimited games, and get 12 tokens to play games where you can win tickets. Technology has stepped up quite a bit since the last time I was in an arcade, and instead of getting paper tickets, you get "electronic" tickets that go right on your swipe card. This way was DEFINITELY not as fun as having tickets in your hand, and knowing exactly how many tickets you have, and trying to tally up how many you need to get that amazing bouncy ball, or pretty pink necklace.

I was able to rediscover my love for driving and shooting games. Some of the games were so interactive and the cars moved and shook when you crashed! Don't worry, it's just a arcade game fad...not the starting of a dangerous hobby.

For the second hour we got to play laser tag, and mini putt. Laser tag was quite similar to Laser Quest at home, but Canada proves to shine again as Laser Quest is 10000x better than the laser tag here. They do not have different floors to hide in, the guns are not as high tech, and YOU DON'T EVEN GET TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN NAME! I was stuck with "Sonic"...lame. I even had the perfect name picked out. Very unimpressed. Mini putt was really fun, except it was smooched into a small space so the holes weren't as fun and creative as I am used to. Sorry...I've seen better. On the up side, I took away the crown and won the game! All in all, it was such a fun and eventful night that brought out my love for arcade games and my deadly competitive side. I ended up having enough tickets to buy a bouncy ball, a slinky, and a tiny travel comb...there is nothing like enjoying the little things in life!
